Noxious Weeds Policy

  • All sales of approved chemical and surfactants shall be paid for in full before pickup. Farmers and ranchers may go to the Trego County Public Works Department (Noxious Weed) Secretary at 120 South Main Street, WaKeeney and pay for the chemicals. A County Weed Department employee will load the chemicals at the chemical warehouse at 704 Barclay Avenue (the old Sprint Mart location). During the spraying season we will have a schedule as to when the warehouse will be opened, which will be Monday mornings 7 a.m. - Noon, and on Wednesday 1 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., so farmers will have to plan ahead.
    • Approved chemical and surfactant prices may be subject to change without notice.
    • There will be limit on the amount of 2,4-D that a person can purchase at one time. The purchase limit of 2,4-D will be 30 gallons per purchase.
    • The purchase amount is subject to change without notice.
    • Any person wanting to purchase more than 30 gallons of 2,4-D will have to contact the County Weed Director. The Weed Director will inspect the field or fields wanting to be treated.
    • The Weed Director will recommend the amount of 2,4-D needed to treat the areas of noxious weeds.
    • The recommendation may include but not limited to Picloram (Tordon), Milestone, Metsulfuron (Escort) and a surfactant.
    • When using the county cost-share the applicators must use the chemicals and rates recommended by the County Weed Director.
    • Private Applicator's License for restricted use chemicals will be checked and verified before sale is complete.
  • No Chemicals will be sold to farmers/applicators for any noxious weed not growing actively.
    • We reserve the right to not sell chemicals or surfactants to anyone.
