The Register of Deeds office maintains and preserves the land records of the county, which includes deeds, mortgages, releases, easements, oil and gas leases, assignments, plats, surveys, in addition to many other miscellaneous documents. Some of the miscellaneous documents are military discharges, federal and state tax liens and Power of Attorney just to name a few. The department also files Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings.
The Register of Deeds Department maintains a current set of indexes which shows the recordings for each tract of land in the county and cities. The Register of Deeds notifies the County Clerk and County Appraiser of all ownership transfers for them to maintain the assessment and tax rolls from which the assessment notices and tax statements are generated each year.
For more information please visit the Kansas Register of Deeds Association website.
